Who's On Campus at the Cool Springs Life Sciences Center
The anchor tenants of the Cool Springs Life Sciences Center represent an excellent cross-section of the most exciting work being done in the Life Sciences today. 
BioMimetic Therapeutics, Inc. (BMTI) is an emerging leader in the development and commercialization of drug-device combination products for the repair of orthopedic injuries. The Company's product development strategy is to combine potent tissue growth factors with existing medical devices, such as synthetic and natural tissue matrices (scaffolds), to generate combination products that provide superior results compared to existing products. The Company's original product candidate, GEM 21S® , was approved by the FDA for the treatment of bone loss associated with advanced periodontal disease. GEM 21S® combines the tissue growth factor, recombinant human Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (rhPDGF-BB) with the synthetic bone matrix, Beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). BioMimetic has established a pipeline of product candidates that are being developed for a broad range of clinical indications including the treatment of open fractures, percutaneous treatment of closed fractures, and vertebral compression fractures of the spine. In addition, the Company is evaluating product candidates for the treatment of various sports injuries including those requiring cartilage, ligament and tendon repair. 
Vanderbilt University is currently working with the CSLSC to develop a research friendly environment that may facilitate future projects. Vanderbilt is an internationally recognized research university in Nashville, Tennessee. The Vanderbilt University Medical Center is an internationally recognized bio-medical research institution and is ranked in the top 10 in federal research and development funding.
The University of Tennessee's Institute for Public Service is in preliminary discussions with the CSLSC regarding several potential areas of cooperation and innovation. |
